Posted 03-19-2009 at 04:09 PM by am_it_wild

many of us on a college campus or office network access the internet through a proxy server .how do you set the proxy server details in your shell environment?you can set the proxy for different protocolsas follows-
$ export http_proxy="http://192.168.0.1:3128";//http proxy
$export ftp_proxy="192.168.0.1:3128";//ftp proxy
you can add your proxy server ip sddress instead of 192.168.0.1 and your port numbers

1. you can obtain your original mac address by going to the terminal and type the
~ $ifconfig
output is:-
eth0 Link encap:EthernetHWaddr 00:1C:23:FB:37:22
now lets change the last part of the mac id forom 22 to 23
$ifconfig eth0 hw ether 00:1c:23:FB:37:23
now type again
$ifconfig
you will get
00:1c:23:FB:37:23
