Don't worry, I haven't died...

I noticed that my last blog post here was on the 26th of January -- over 3 months ago. Unfortunately, my life has been quite busy lately, and is likely to remain so for the next month or so whilst I get my Higher exams out the way. But after the final exam (which, incidentally, is computing on 3rd of June), I'll have just 3 weeks before my summer holidays. No idea what I'll be doing over summer, but I'll aim to get a couple of posts up per week whatever I'm doing.

Until then, however,...

Step By Step Ubuntu 11.04 (Natty) LAMP Server Setup

Posted 05-03-2011 at 12:08 PM by sridhar11

In around 15 minutes, the time it takes to install Ubuntu Server Edition, you can have a LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL and PHP) server up and ready to go. This feature, exclusive to Ubuntu Server Edition, is available at the time of installation. The LAMP option means you don’t have to install and integrate each of the four separate LAMP components, a process which can take hours and requires someone who is skilled in the installation and configuration of the individual applications. Instead, you get...

More playing with BtrFS on Slackware

Posted 05-03-2011 at 07:58 AM by lumak (Lumak's Guide to Random Things)

Ok well I'm done playing with all that for now.

Some issues I have with BtrFS for now are:
- Quotas can not be implemented on subvolumes.
- EDIT: A segfault when trying to use an encrypted volume with either a seed or its rewritable counterpart..
- Slackware does not ship with btrfstune to toggle the seed flag anyway.
- Slackware isn't equipped to multiboot multiple roots from the same btrfs.

However, in general, everything that is supported...

My opinions and beliefs.

I am going to quit expressing them and try to subdue the emotions that they may bring forth. No one ever agrees with me on anything, and that depresses me. Many times I feel like I get attacked and/or belittled. It makes me feel like I am in the wrong community here on LQ. I suppose I should just admit that I am dumb and ignorant. I don't even know what is true or right anymore. Just an FYI to some people I'm only human and I have feelings too.

Anyway, from this point further I will...

A Wubi issue fixed!

Posted 05-02-2011 at 03:58 AM by rich_c

A colleague asked me to have a look at a laptop he’d installed Mint on using Wubi. He was getting an error
Code:
Try (hd0,0): NTFS5 no wubildr
which was delaying booting into Mint by a minute or two. After much Googling, the solution wasn’t immediately obvious. So, I thought I’d blog it here!

In the end, what the solution turned out to be was pretty trivially simple. I located wubildr and wubildr.mbr on the C: drive (/host with Mint running.) and copied them to the ‘hidden’ partition...
