I’ve made a remaster of Damn Small Linux 2024 rc3 – 32 bit. My first remaster of DSL 2024 is from 240207. "The New DSL 2024 has been reborn as a compact Linux distribution tailored for low-spec x86 computers. It packs a lot of applications into a small package. All the applications are chosen for their functionality, small size, and low dependencies. DSL 2024 also has many text-based applications that make it handy to use in a term window or TTY".

I have previously posted news about my SlackEX Linux Live Systems (Slackware 15.0) Build 231129 (Xfce 4.18) and Build 231201 (KDE Plasma 5.27.10). Now I have news about both SlackEX versions.

Trying to install Linux on a Windows netbook with 32-bit UEFI firmware?

There are some netbooks/tablets/cheap laptops with an x64 capable processor, that are crippled by 32-bit UEFI firmware and originally ran 32-bit Windows only.

The reason for that is because Microsoft received less money for licensing Windows on netbooks than for laptops and desktop PCs, so most of these netbooks ran software like Windows 7 Starter with reduced functionality.

For the benefit of anybody who is having problems installing Linux on the Acer E11 netbook:

You should be able to use the UEFI boot (instead of using Legacy) with your USB HDD, without disabling Secure Boot.

Before attempting to dual-boot Linux on an existing Windows computer it is essential to backup all personal data to an external drive.

There are two main reasons why people may wish to dual-boot Windows and Linux:

1.) They are familiar with Windows and are perhaps interested in replacing it with Linux. They may be reluctant to ditch Windows completely, in case they do not get along with Linux 100% and so decide to keep a foot in both camps....
