Not an Arch linux user, but I am thinking about becoming one. Noticed that Mythtv seems to have some packages for MythTV in the Arch repo for the ARM cpu. Have two Arm products and maybe a third if I get my birthday wish. As I have already recorded, we put Debian squeeze back on the Nslu2. The Insigina infocast also has an Arm processor. Would it not be interesting to make the Chumby, a MythTV front end!!!!

Just stuff...

Found another PDA with a serial connection, but will have to make a special interface cable. We will see how that goes also. Want to use the palm with the arduino as a display. Cheaper than buying a rs232 lcd. Well free is always cheaper. May make a discrete parts rs232tottl adapter.

Made sort of a passive network tap from: http://www.instructables.com/id/Pass...k-tap-revised/

Found that Slackware has a dvd that automatically becomes a pxe server. Can not wait...

Fun with Haskell

Posted 07-28-2012 at 04:11 PM by hydraMax (Bits and Pixels)

Lately I've been having fun getting back into Haskell. I had dropped the language a while ago in favor of more "practical" pursuits, but I see now that was a big mistake. Haskell is such a beautiful and enjoyable way to code.

Recently I made a few little designs and animations based on mathematical formulae. Photos or videos are available for each:

Spiral: Generates a 2D spiral with GnuPlot.

Spinning: Spins circle pairs around each other with...

Leap second and Java woes

Posted 07-27-2012 at 12:25 PM by sag47
Updated 07-27-2012 at 12:27 PM by sag47

This is kind of an old event however I thought I'd talk about it for both myself in the future and for anyone looking for an answer when it happens again. There is a bug in java or the kernel in which leap seconds cause some really nasty behavior. For instance, All app servers which include Jetty, Tomcat, and JBoss were pegged at 100% CPU usage and ridiculously high load averages. I don't know if this affects weblogic because if I recall they ship their own custom build of java which may or may...
