Newegg Boycott Back On

It seems Newegg management is playing games with people. It appears they really do intend to refuse returns by future customers when another OS is installed by that customer.

It should not matter what OS is on the computer. Why? Because they should NEVER be reselling any computer to another customer without first wiping off the hard drive and putting the original OS...

For fun I bought a Ben Nanonote the other day and am slowly starting to play with it as time permits. I'm listing the things I have discovered about it so far.

shutdown instead of reboot from ctrl-alt-del

Typically the ctrl-alt-del in Debian will cause the system to reboot (or the GUI may bring up a dialog).

If the preference is to have this shut down the system instead, the relevant line in /etc/inittab is changed from:

to:

ca:12345:ctrlaltdel:/sbin/shutdown -t1 -a -h now

Q: What is an exception safe code?
A: A code may throw an exception but at the same time if it:
- Doesn't allow any memory (allocated by it) to be leaked.
- Lets the program to remain in a well-defined state (no dangling pointers
  and all) so that execution can continue as intended.
- Reports the error to the caller (when encountered).
then it can be termed as an exception safe code.

Of course, a code which won't be throwing any exception ever is an exception

It seems Newegg was quick to deal with the situation they had, which was reported yesterday, regarding a rejection of return of a computer that had Linux installed on it.

I'm still concerned about their procedures for wiping off used data storage devices before reselling them to customers, inside a computer or not.
