How To dual boot, triple boot or multiboot Linux with Windows in a simple way and be happy

Posted 07-07-2017 at 07:44 AM by exton (Exton's Blog)

In a instruction from 170707 I will show you how easy it is to have several Linux systems installed on one computer together with for example Windows 10. The configuration is so simple a ten year old child can do it.

BACKGROUND
Ubuntu and all Linux systems based on Ubuntu (such as Linux Mint) uses Grub2 as boot manager. Also Debian and most other Linux systems use Grub2. Grub2 works differently from the old Grub Legacy.

Another systemd zero-day security vuln

Posted 07-06-2017 at 11:26 AM by ttk (Unpopular Positions: One Geek's Take)

Systemd falls back to root privileges when an invalid user account is specified.

Shadow-tools allows the creation of invalid user accounts.

Face, meet palm.

Brother HL-2140 B&W Laser Printer under Debian 9 only prints blank pages: a fix

Posted 07-04-2017 at 05:28 PM by flshope

The Debian 9 install was done from a netinst CD. It appeared to be a textbook-successful install. The post-install...

You barely can search within a given group you're subscribed to -- better luck searching from google search with "site:groups.yahoo" and things like that.

Congratulations, yahoo, now hackers/defacers don't have anything to do there.

It's an old, massive transformation of a previously functional UI into a useless, unintuitive, clump of "featured bugs". I thought it would be fixed eventually, but it's just as bad as the first time they've ruined it....

Create your own Linux distro based on ExTiX 17.5/Ubuntu 17.04!

Posted 07-03-2017 at 04:22 AM by exton (Exton's Blog)

In ExTiX 17.5, Build 170508, with KDE 4.16.12 and KDE Frameworks I have included (pre-installed) Refracta Tools, which makes it possible for you to very easy and fast make your own Ubuntu 17.04 (or Ubuntu 17.10) distro.

Watch a slideshow showing how Refracta Snapshot works...
