The following information concentrates on the latest long-term versions of Debian, Ubuntu and Mint, namely Debian 9 (Stretch), Ubuntu 18.04 (Bionic) and Mint 19.x (Tara, Tessa, Tina, ...), but should be applicable, with modifications, to any Debian-derived distro.

Get Brackets working on Ubuntu >=18.04 and Mint 19.x

Posted 05-23-2019 at 04:03 AM by hydrurga
Updated 05-23-2019 at 07:49 AM by hydrurga

The problem
Brackets, the useful web development editor and environment, can be downloaded as a deb archive from http://brackets.io/. However, the package has a dependency on libcurl3, while Ubuntu Bionic and variants, and later versions, use libcurl4. Installing the package will therefore install libcurl3, and remove libcurl4, curl and any packages that depend on these. Not recommended.

This problem has existed for quite some time now, has been reported as an issue several...

Posted 05-17-2019 at 05:36 PM by hydrurga
Updated 05-23-2019 at 07:49 AM by hydrurga

This tutorial currently relates to VirtualBox 6.0.x, but will be valid for any version in the VirtualBox repository. Note that since v6, VirtualBox does not support 32-bit hosts, for which you should install VirtualBox v5.2.

The instructions below should not affect any virtual machines you have already set up with a previous version of...

Updated 08-20-2018 at 05:03 AM by exton

I have compiled yet another Ubuntu/Debian kernel for 64 bit systems. This time kernel 4.18.3-exton, equivalent to Kernel.org’s latest stable kernel 4.18.3 released 20180818.

What’s new in Linux kernel 4.18?

Install kernel 4.18.3-exton in Ubuntu/Debian based distributions
My self-compiled Ubuntu kernels can be used in all types of modern Ubuntu systems, including Mint. They can even be used in Debian Stretch (Debian 9) and Debian Buster (upcoming Debian 10). ...

Posted 06-07-2018 at 10:50 AM by anestis89

Before saying anything else, I want to thank Jeremy and all the people in this site
for maintaining such a wonderful space on the net. I've been a member of this forum
since 2016, not posting too much, but I learned many things about Linux here from
very knowledgeable people and I want to thank them. As I am completely self-taught
about Linux and currently searching for a job in the field as a junior admin, I hope
to contribute more in the future in the forum...
