OK take a deep breath, now let it out.
Note: Raspberry Pi OS now has the current release version in the Bookworm repos.

There are several ways to get a newer version of Firefox.

First, there is Ubuntuzilla, which works for i386/amd64 but not arm32/arm64. Since I am on RPIOS I am just posting the link to it.

NEWS 211023 about DebEX KDE Plasma – a Refracta Build
I have made a new version of DebEX KDE Plasma Live DVDEFI. It replaces version 210818. It’s a pure Debian 11 system. (Stable). I.e.: There are no Ubuntu or Kubuntu elements involved. DebEX KDE Plasma uses the KDE Plasma Desktop 5:20 as Desktop environment. I have replaced Wicd with NetworkManager. It works better. I have replaced Google Chrome with Firefox-ESR/Iceweasel 78.15 (for Netflix). I’ve also added SMPlayer – an alternative...

Updated 06-22-2022 at 11:54 PM by ondoho (added -T option to dmesg (human-readable timestamps))

You want to see how your Linux system reacts to a certain peripheral being plugged in (smartphone, monitor, USB stick etc.).
dmesg can provide that information, but one needs to separate it from previous messages.
Here's how:
  • Make sure the device in question is unplugged.
  • Open a terminal, maximise it.
  • Enter dmesg -Tw (wait for new messages).
  • Some systems require elevated privileges for dmesg, if so prepend sudo or become superuser first.
  • After dmesg -Tw spat out lots

is a simple live remaster of Ubuntu 21.10, code-named Impish Indri, which was released 211014. It’s a total rebuild. I.e. nothing is left of the old LFA system.

NEWS ABOUT LFA Build 211021 WITH LXQt 0.17.0
I’ve made one extra version of LFA. This time with the LXQt Desktop Environment instead of Gnome 40. This version of LFA is for older non-EFI computers. LXQt is a lightweight Qt desktop environment. It will not get in your way....

Unbuffered shell-input

Posted 10-16-2021 at 01:46 AM by Michael Uplawski
Updated 11-13-2021 at 12:43 AM by Michael Uplawski (Wrong title, much misunderstanding and ill-chosen search criteria.)

There are solutions on the Web.

Having read some of these, I prefer a Ruby-Oneliner “readNB” which returns the 1 character that the user has had a chance to enter on the keyboard, before readNB returns.

---------------------- In the meantime -------------------------
GazL has – in the very first comment on this blog, below – presented a better solution with the shell built-in command read: read accepts some parameters and a call like
Code:
read -r -s -N1 [VARIABLE]
