CoderMan: Hacking by Night

What do you do when you wake up at 3:00 in the morning and can't fall back to sleep? Well, such is my case, and I find myself programming. You should think my mind would be too muddled to program at this time of night, but apparently not.

Am I a singular case, or is there anyone else out there who has ever coded in the late hours of the morning because they couldn't sleep?

Chkrootkit 0.49 was released on 2009/07/30 and I sent some emails to the users mailing list and Nelson after it about changes. Realizing I never got word back I'll just post here. The patch below adds:
0) a new test called which utilizes '(/sbin/)ip' instead of 'ifconfig' because a sniffer (benign or malicious) does not need to have the interface in promiscuous mode (e.g.: 'ifconfig eth0 promisc && tcpdump -p -i any 2>&1>/dev/null &') and 'ip' detects and differentiates...

A standard Windows desktop is useless - My point of view.

I read a blog post recently with the above title. While I agree with the sentiment, the detail of the post doesn't cover my reasons for thinking the standard Windows desktop is useless. they are as follows.

Take, for example, any out of the box Windows install as compared to any of the top Linux distros from DistroWatch. Install them pretty much as default and apply any updates. Now which do you suppose you could immediately start working with? I'll allow myself one negative...
