I don't know any Linux users that hate windows users. I do however know plenty of Linux users that have plenty of distain for MS and Windows in general. Most posts I have seen on Linux forums regarding windows start right in bashing Linux... in that regard how would you respond?
I feel much the same way, in that I don't hate Windows users, only the corporation that distributes Windows. I'm willing to use Windows, but only if it's in an emergency situation, or where there really is no choice (such as in a school/office).
It even gets on my nerves when people do "creative" plays on "Microsoft" (Micro$oft, Microsh*t, etc), and "Windows" (Window$, Winblows, Windoze, etc.), because to me, that just shows a high level of immaturity. It's not a sin to call them by their proper names!

Err, do you mean Linux forum users bashing Windows, or Windows forum users bashing Linux?
In either case, I'd just say something along the lines of "Who cares? Use what you like, just don't flame me for not using your preferred OS".
Each side has it's zealots. Most people fail to look at the OS as a tool and nothing more. M$ has done some bad things in the personal computer world. Some just ignore their actions as they don't understand or care to do anything. Just get my system to work as I want, nothing else. While others have disdain and disgust for M$ actions so some jump over to the GNU/Linux world.
As for the 'UNIX world, most people don't move to it because of cost unless justified for support or gain within their field. I for one won't purchase another UNIX, no real reason as I've retired from UNIX usage and use GNU/Linux instead. If I was still working within my field then someone else would be paying for my UNIX.
I happen to straddle the OS fence as my clients use both worlds.
A HP laptop was just purchased as an avenue to M$ Win7 and I wanted another unit to support clients without moving another Laptop. Cheap way to get the M$ license plus have a decent unit at a great price.
BTW, you have used up the one M$ question allowed by Bob. Hail to the sub-genius! Something like that at least, I ran out of chickens, beer and frankincense for the altar.
Actually, I find that the most new comers to Linux (or any new comers to anything) are more anti-opposition than those that have used both for an extended period of time.
Linux has a lot of flaws that prevent main stream usage, which includes the ease of use for doing specific tasks. Not to mention that minimal support from corporate programs. Like it or not, programs created by corporations are useful and are often far superior to open source at least on work-flow productivity.
I use Linux because I like it and don't mind learning more. I couldn't care less about people using something else unless they tell me I can't use Linux.
99.99% of the people in my life use the computer for:
-internet browsing
-facebook terminal
-Instant Messenger
-Casual games like solitare / chess
-Office applications
-Simple video editing comprising of putting together two or three clips
It interests people that I mention linux to that they no longer need to worry about buying a $200+ cd to reformat if they messed up.
Or that they can read and write word files with open office without having to pay $300-400 for a microsoft office package.
And that they'll never have to worry or buy an $80 antivirus program.
If you use the computer as a facebook terminal (99.99% of USA here) there is no reason to need to have to pay for and/or worry about the integrity of windows.
My additional 2 cents->>
Technology is a science. Marketing is an Art.
IMO,Microsoft corporation has mastered the both.
But; but in front of the world; it never brings forth the best of the technology, it has.
It releases them into patches.
As a technologist; I would have unbiased view on any technology.
But; if I want to market; I would obviously market my own technology(i need to earn my bread and butter from it) and in turn; bash the others.
No, we cannot be friends. M$ is the evil empire and there is no dealing with them. I don't want to have anything to do with them, and I know that one day they will attempt and possibly succeed at destroying freedom. Why would I want to be friends ?

Thats wonderful, if you can buy a system easily; without windows; at a saving. Which unless you build it yourself, or research lots is infact quite hard.
Added to this the number of users who dont pay for windows, or office, or avg.
My girlfriend has paid for Windows via the cost of her laptop, however she has AVG and Openoffice. She doesn't care that openoffice is open source, just that its free.
So that $680+ saving just became alot smaller : $200 infact. But no, she was supplied with a restore CD too, which restores from a hidden partition.
She lost the CD.
However, she can still restore simply from the boot up process.
Total saving switching to linux: Unknown as the windows licence was never seperately paid for.
And you've also just adviced them to not run a virus scanner at all - That might seem like a great idea apart from two things.
1. Their friends still run windows, just because your system can't get infected doesn't mean you wont accidently transfer something to someone else
2. Whoever said Linux can't get infected?
Damn, now I sound like some Microsoft fanboy. I'm not but I no longer hate them the way I used to. Partly due to using linux for years and partly due to learning the ways of the "real" (read:working) world where we all dont have choices, and infact it's not a free world.
I've learn to accept that Linux does fail for end users in some cases, and just isn't the right choice. Hopefully one day it'll be fully capable as windows is and seen as an equal but thats still awhile off in my opinion.

One, the M$ user should be aware of potential hazards from anywhere. Shuffling infected files via a GNU/Linux system would indeed cause harm to un-protected M$ user. For GNU/Linux user you will not readily find a virus that will be transferable to a M$ other than by a scripting language or transfer of a infected M$ program. Executable/object programs for GNU/Linux system won't function on a M$ system period.
Show me the money! Where's that new GNU/Linux virus your speaking of?
'rootkits', now that's a whole different story but in the long run even 'rootkits' should not reflect damage to a M$ system.
I do not hate any windows user. Sure I feel bad for them for having not come into the light, but I do not hate them at all. They are simply blinded by M$ and all the bs hoopla
windows is just an unix flavor too,i for one has abandoned it to dedicate my time and money elsewhere,Gnu/linux is the future, and a great man once said "you can fool some people sometime, but you cant fool all the people all the time" but hey if anybody likes windows im not hte one to tell them not to its a free world, but i truly belive that there is no future for windows.
