No, I use MinGW for all my NON-OS programming.
I use Turbo C++ as its more to the metal.
I think using GCC may actually be tweaked to work with asm (".code 16");
Custangro, what will happen to you if you "fall behind"? Will you grow hair on your palms? Will your teeth come in crooked? I suggest that you just use the tool that works for you.
Which is all of them...like I said...for the average user it dosen't matter what you use as long as it works for you...
But if you're in IT...you become a fanboy...you'll fall behind
For the record, deletion of posts on LQ is very rare:
Mods or Admin only delete posts in cases of obvious SPAM, or cases of accidental double-posting (at the request of the double-poster), or in a case where an otherwise valid thread has been brutally derailed by off-topic arguments amongst members, and those involved agree that the thread would benefit from a cleanup.
In the SPAM case, even then, deletion is usually only if the spammer has also been permanently banned from the website. In cases of minor SPAM, we often edit the post to remove the SPAM, but the post itself might remain (though the thread may get closed if it's SPAM only).
So, the chances that mattdvh's post(s) have been manually deleted by a mod or admin in this thread, are very low.
That said however, I see evidence that a total of 5 posts of the 2751 posts in this thread, have been deleted for one reason or another. If you wish mattdvh, if you suspect that a post(s) of yours has been inappropriately deleted, you can use the REPORT button on any post in this thread, and request that a moderator or admin investigate to see if that is the case.

I don'/t even know how this ridiculous thread from non-Nix General got into my subscribed posts list--I must have posted in it without realizing it--but thank you for explaining the policy on deleting posts. I thought LQ inexplicably refused to delete posts that should be deleted, such as accidental double posts. I still think double posts might as well be deleted as soon as convenient.

We don't steadfastly nor inexplicably refuse but it isn't a high priority. If a member uses the REPORT button and asks for their accidental dupe to be deleted, it *usually* will be, at the discretion of whichever moderator deals with the report.
At the same time though, simply deleting your own content and writing "accidental dupe" into the post, pretty much achieves the same end.
Anyhow, let's get back on track here -- if there are any further inquiries about deleted threads or IRC channels, let's use either the LQ "Suggestions & Feedback" forum, or the report button.
