Pizza!

Thought I would make some home made cheese. Done it a few times so it is not routine, but close. probably have a pizza party for some old friends very soon.

A little ALSA magic

Wanted configuration :
  • user kde can play sound using the Optical output
  • user enna can play via analog and optical simultaneously (optionaly HDMI)
  • Both users can play via Optical at the same time
  • Both have access to an upmixing device that encodes the stream into A52 and sends via the Optical output

first we name the outputs (link numbers to names, this will be different on your hardware) and add a dmix device for the digital output to the global asoundrc:

deleting file on ntfs partition

I have portable USB hard disk with NTFS filesystem . I copied a file emding with space (eg 'a.avi ') on it in ubuntu.
At home when I plugged hard disk in XP then the file won't be deleted,renamed,edited etc. Could not change permission .
I got message
Code:
Cannot read from source file or disk
Then I ran in windows command prompt
Code:
erase "\\?\j:\a.avi "
So the moral is-

Slackpkg Tutorial for Security Updates

Slackpkg 2.81.1 is included in the Full Installation of Slackware-13.1. One of its functions is to keep your system up-to-date with regard to security updates from the network/Internet. It does not replace pkgtool, but uses pkgtool to install/upgrade packages.

You need to uncomment one mirror in /etc/slackpkg/mirrors file

# vi /etc/slackpkg/mirrors

You can include new mirrors in this file, including...

Size of swap for Linux machine with 49,133,092 KB RAM.

Hi,

I have to install RHEL 5.4 version on a machine with 49,133,092 KB RAM. Please let me know what should be the size of swap area ?
Also please tell me how to reduce the size of swap if I have given more swap size than its RAM ?
