*anger* Xorg 1.6 is driving me crazy. *FIXED*

Ok, so I just reinstalled Gentoo on my main machine, and I installed Xorg too (with the appropriate input drivers installed too).

Only I can't get it to work.

Blank screen
No input of any kind
No way of getting out of it without a hard reboot

It's almost as if the Xorg devs expect people to stay with the CLI after the installation of Xorg-fail-server version "Goonandscrewyourself".6

First the log files lead me to...

having fun with bash varaibles: indirect variable references

Well I recently started messing around with bash scripts as cgi scripts and was wondering how to pass variables in and what not.

Well it turns out, Apache will define the variable $QUERY_STRING which will contain everything after the first question mark. You can then pars this string to define variables. The general format is "name1=val1&name2=val2". It turns out you can actually declare variables in bash using 'declare' and parameter expansion.

Pathology: Two Years of Linux

So it's been just about two years that I've been using Linux. I started off just out of sheer curiosity, and like many people my first distribution was Ubuntu. It was ok, but I wanted to try other distros and I used BLAG Linux for a while then wound up on Debian testing for a good bit. Then I went sorta apeshit and tried out about 20 different distributions before finally settling on Slackware which is still my favorite eventhough I'm currently running AntiX. The "holiday shopping season" is nearly upon us, which means that the holiday shopping season advice columns are here too. I just read this one from PC Mag "What Not to Buy in 2009" and it really bugged me.
