Getting fancy with installs

Posted 03-02-2019 at 07:36 AM by schulidr (An open source user evolution)

I feel pretty good about where things have come in the past few days. I have resolved to setting a couple attainable goals before I continue on in any more of an aggressive manner. I have to remember that I start school in the fall which I am sure will be a time hog, but at the same time, could possibly give me my fill for learning. I guess we shall see. Onto what's been going on lately!

My focus for now has to be on continued reading and understanding the book “Code” I am reading....

Command-line control of network activation and deactivation

Posted 12-12-2016 at 12:33 PM by flshope

It took me a while to find this, so I thought I would post it. After searching through various sources, I finally took the time to read all of the hundred or so lines you get from 'apropos network'.

A terminal command to activate or deactive networking is

Code:
nmcli networking on
nmcli networking off
Under Ubuntu I usually depend on a networking control icon that appears on the tool bar of the indicator applet, but sometimes the icon is missing. I...

Discovering the shell command ‘fold’.

Posted 08-16-2016 at 01:13 AM by Michael Uplawski

Explaining to others has always been a great approach to internalize valuable information. So here is this shell command that I have discovered thanks to an exchange on LQ. You can read the discussion here: sed-less word wrap in Bash.

What it does: fold wraps lines of text after a given position and at a given symbol. This is lot like wrapping in a text-editor or what your mail-client does, when you configure a maximum line-length for incoming and outgoing email. You could, for example,...

Bash Scripting for Dummies and Geniuses

One only need look at LinuxQuestions.org to notice the great amount of script (and code) questions and varieties of comments to realize that we all have varying opinions about bash programming.

Many questions are very complicated, as are the resulting answers and script recommendations. I've noticed that two fundamental points are invariably overlooked by the questioners, and many of the comments:

Quote:
"All programming is the use of simple operations to solve complex

Skype problem

Posted 04-20-2011 at 02:07 PM by myklmar (Linux Gimux)

It happened again!
Updated Skype, video wouldn't work and it made my voice sound like donald duck!

Have discovered that with some installations Skype video won't work.
So....Try adding this as the properties of a shortcut:

(System >Preferences >Keyboard Shortcuts)

env LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib32/libv4l/v4l2convert.so skype

I've saved mine as Ctrl + Alt + S

No more problems..
