openSUSE

Posted 04-11-2011 at 10:33 AM by rich_c

As I mentioned in the post before this one, I'm looking to install openSUSE on my test box when it's new hard drive arrives.

In the meantime, I've been playing with it as a Virtualbox guest... Initially, during the install, I was a little unimpressed and started to wonder if I might have to try an alternative distro. However, first impressions aren't always accurate. I'm currently very impressed!

The install I performed was on a standard 8GB virtual disk. I rather...

Gnome 3?

Should you make the switch to Gnome 3?

For some of you out there, you won't even be using a graphical interface. For others, you may have to think more about this decision.

What my test PC will be doing next!

Posted 04-09-2011 at 03:20 PM by rich_c

I think the hard drive on my test box is dead or dying... So, I'm going to take the opportunity to get hold of a bigger (120GB as opposed to 20GB) drive for my little machine and then install the LXDE spin of openSUSE.

I really like LXDE as a lightweight environment. For me, it's unassuming and usable in a way that other lightweight desktops/window managers aren't. My first experience of Linux was a boxed set of SuSE 7.3 (I think) so it'll be nice to see what openSUSE has to offer....

After almost 2 years of trying to perfect and refine this software, it's now finally reached the first presentable and stable form. Maybe it's already the final form I'm not sure. I'm glad that I was able to finish it.

versions released: 0.1 (base) and 0X.1 (extended)
