Run latest Slackware 64 bit with latest KDE version and kernel!

Posted 06-19-2013 at 02:05 AM by exton (Exton's Blog)

I've made a new version of Exton-Slack 14.0 (Slackware 14.0).

New features in version 130619 of Exton-Slack 14.0 (compared with the previous version from 130514)
I have replaced kernel 3.8.7-exton with kernel 3.9.6-x86_64-exton with support for "everything". KDE is upgraded to version 4.10.4. All other component software is also upgraded to the latest Slackware version by now. I may mention in particular GParted 0.14.1 (latest, not in Slackware's repositories), AbiWord...

I got the load balancer working pretty easily. The changes to apache2.conf are pretty straight forwards.

I'll do a detailed write up on that at some point, but in the mean time, here are two sites that have useful information on load balancing:

I haven't put the load balancer in place yet because I'm not getting enough...

Gnome Encfs Manager

Posted 06-17-2013 at 11:38 AM by sridhar11

The Gnome Encfs Manager (or short GEncfsM) is an easy to use manager and mounter for encfs stashes featuring per-stash configuration, Gnome Keyring support, a tray menu inspired by Cryptkeeper but using the AppIndicator API and lots of unique features. Whether you want to let it do things as simple as mounting a stash at startup, which is often used in conjunction with cloud-synced folders on services like Dropbox and Ubuntu one, or whether you want to let it automatically mount and unmount your...

Posted 06-16-2013 at 08:31 PM by rocket357 (Musings on technology, philosophy, and life in the corporate world)

Granted, my wife is an incredibly paranoid web surfer, and in the 12 years we've been together there has been just one virus issue (and that was after our niece used her computer to surf some "ooh, I'm a vampire...I sparkle!" type of social sites). Sigh.

So, why the rekindled fear? My daughter is old enough to start using the internet, and she hasn't had time to build up the same paranoia that her mother...

Pepper Flash plugin for Chromium browser

A few sites require the the newer version of Adobe Flash with the Pepper API.

This is included in the closed Chrome browser package, but it can also be used with the open source Chromium browser from which Chrome is derived. The Pepper API is not supported by Firefox.

There are packages available for some distros, but it can also be installed manually.

First download the current Chrome package to suit your architecture, eg:
Code:
wget https://dl.google.com/linux/direct/google-chrome-stable-current_
...
