My fight against ads.

Running openwrt on my router and hating advertisements, I decided to look into dnsmasq's possibilities. And indeed it supports hard binding of addresses to Domain names.

conf-dir=/etc/dnsmasq.d/
to dnsmasq.conf, and putting a file generated by http://pgl.yoyo.org/as/ in there (as ablock.conf) quite securely blocks all ads on my network (and from basic testing, it seems that even ads at the beginning of flash videos are filtered out. YAY!).

I know using /etc/hosts...

i have a problem to airodump-ng for hacking wireless key
ubuntu10.04. There are b43 driver problem like this

:/# airmon-ng start eth1
eth1 Unknown wl (monitor mode enabled)

and

:/# airodump-ng eth1

ioctl(SIOCSIWMODE) failed: Invalid argument

ARP linktype is set to 1 (Ethernet) - expected ARPHRD_IEEE80211,
ARPHRD_IEEE80211_FULL or ARPHRD_IEEE80211_PRISM instead....

Window Manager Ponderings

Why is it that two features of fluxbox aren't implemented in any other window managers?

1. fluxbox manages the transparency settings of any application you want. It's in the right click menu and it's extreemly easy to set there or even in the manual configuration. This seems like the easiest feature for any eye candy capable window manager to do.

Getting a timestamp string in a Windows cmd.exe variable

This technique was developed to generate a timestamp string for rsync's --backup-dir option but it could be generally useful.

The first issue is that the value of %DATE% depends on Windows' regional settings so is not portable. The same goes for the output format of cmd.exe's builtin command date. ...if it prevents you from going completely bat-sh*t insane?

I willfully avoid topics such as psychology and neuroscience. Why? Because if I actually studied them, they'd shred what last few bits of my worldview I desperately hold on to into tiny pieces. No, scratch that..they'd decimate them into proverbial subatomic particles.

Am I to be considered an "ignorant fool" because of this? Simply because I refuse to swallow the idea that nothing I do...
