mod censorship?
This is not a flame again mods but I do want to understand what is going on here.
background: I started a poll regarding the new logo.. it was locked by XavierP.. I didn't really question it.. A few days later I decided there was enough going on with the topic to try the poll again... again XavierP locked it and then sent this to me. Personally I think this is completely unfair and should be looked into by another moderator.

You have received an infraction at LinuxQuestions.org

Vote yes or no.. it's easy (xavierP leave this thread alone!)
All the best,

The English have a long tradition of invading countries and then getting annoyed when their people follow them home. - Tommy Tiernan
'Infraction points'? Oh for gods sake! I didn't even know such a thing existed.
That does seem overly harsh. I still believe that XavierP made a misjudgement in closing the first poll and under the circumstances your 'infraction' seems quite borderline and undeserving of receiving an official warning by way of points. It's not as if you were being disruptive or anything. Maybe you just caught him in a bad mood.
The poll should not have been closed. It was closed on the grounds that because people had already expressed an opinion, a poll was not needed. I've expressed opinions about the present UK government, but if I don't vote for or against - what use are those opinions? The poll should have been merged with the two threads regarding views about the logo. Give some a little power and it goes to their heads, handing out undeserved infractions. Infract me if you want, I don't give a ****.
There was no mistake nor any error. The poll thread which was started after the first opinion thread offered nothing new to the discussion apart from 3 radio buttons. It was an identical thread. Do we really need multiple threads all saying "I like the new log/Idon't like the new logo"? Did any of these new threads bring anything new to the table? No they didn't.
That is why the 2 new threads were closed. No censorship and there was nothing personal involved. And the infractions, which do not hurt your LQ browsing and will expire after a short time were simply a warning. Nothing more nothing less. Not me abusing my power. I would also draw your attention to the line in the Rules which states:
"LinuxQuestions.org retains the right to remove, edit, move or close any thread for any reason."

ROFL.. I see you unlocked this thread.. too funny. I guess it would have been too much for even you to lock this one..
Anyway, I don't wish to argue with you on the internet... totally rediculous. I think you are on a power trip.. you don't think so.. end of story. The real question is can you put a poll in the original thread.. yes? or no?

Just to further the importance of a vote. In the thread you locked.. there were 42 votes but only 12 replies. People are much more likely to click a button then post a whole reply. The vote was never intended to by negative... it was just to get more opinions. With that information the dev. team could do what is best for slack.. remember it is a business.. and like it or not people pay attention to the way things look.
I think the Mods are just doing their job. We have the LQ rules so read them then abide by them.
Some of the communications should be done personally via PM. You can then vent openly with the Mod.
I've had my issues in the past, with personalities clashing. Discussion via PM was helpful for the intelligent involved people. Others took things as a power trip.
I maintain a wiki and that's enough work. I would not want to moderate a forum. Too many personalities!
I don't think XavierP was on a power trip. BTW, that label could be applied to some of the people at fault within this thread and other related threads.
Since you post on the LQ Forums you agreed to abide by the LQ Rules.
So read them!

you guys honestly think I should have gotten an infraction as indicated in the first post.. for starting a thread? It was a simple poll... come on. Quit sucking a$$ and read before you post.
I've had my disagreements with Mod censorship, and I made the point here on the forum. Furthermore, given the same irritation, I'd do it again; but I certainly never started a thread for the sole purpose of doing so. Pretty damn childish, if you ask me.

Slackb0t,
This is purely a matter of being in someone else's house and abiding by their rules. As to "sucking a$$", no matter how you spell it, it's offensive.
