1. you posted a thread when a similar thread had been closed, and
2. you issues a direct challenge to the moderator who'd closed the previous thread "(xavierP leave this thread alone!)".
What exactly did you expect to happen?
A useful lesson in life is give an ultimatum/threat/whatever if you aren't prepared for the consequences.
You didn't really leave Xavier a lot of choice, his authority would be diminished if he did nothing (and like it or not, as a moderator he is in a position of authority).
I'd like to take part and see the results of that poll.
Either starting a new thread or adding the poll to the existing one seem perfectly reasonable. If it really does violate the letter of LQ rules then perhaps some discretion could be used.
Things have gone a bit OTT on both sides, but I do think the original point is valid.
This is not a flame again mods but I do want to understand what is going on here.
LQ is very open about moderation and I can understand that sometimes it is hard to see why moderation is necessary. As said before it is better to ask for clarification in a private conversation between you and the moderator in question. I am happy to see the majority of LQ users acknowledge the value of moderation and help make and keep LQ a good place to be by exercising the kind of selfmoderation the LQ Community is known for.

I'll close this thread because what needed to be said was said, if you still would like to talk about your issue I'd invite you to e-mail Xavier, me or any moderator you choose. TIA
