Not sure what this is for or how it differs from a Web Site

Posted 03-03-2009 at 03:08 PM by Jim Isbell

Not knowing what this is for I will post some notes and see what surfaces.

I am 72 years old with 45+ years of experience in computers and programing starting with the IBM7070 in 1959.

I am running Linspire, Freespire, Puppy and XP on three computers in a network.

I am just starting Puppy and find it faster and easier to use than Freespire. But cannot configure my printer. Took an hour to figure out how to install Puppy and get the menu-normal.lst file...

An Introduction

Copy directory using tar

Posted 03-03-2009 at 11:04 AM by ciotog
Updated 03-07-2009 at 09:40 AM by ciotog (remove stray echo, no need to test before mkdir when using -p)

Here's a simple script that uses tar to copy a directory. Naturally it would need to be called cpdir (or alter the usage method) and present in your path to use it.

Code:
#!/bin/sh

usage()
{
	cat << USAGE
	usage: cpdir <source-dir> <dest-dir>
USAGE
}

if [ -z "$1" -o -z "$2" -o ! -d "$1" -o -e "$2" -a ! -d "$2" ]
then
	usage
	exit 1

A linux blog entry, written on a MacBook Pro

Posted 03-03-2009 at 09:04 AM by glomph

Don't shoot me.
Even though I'd probably be better off.

Were it not for my wonderful friends in Seattle & Hamburg, life would be unbearable.

Back to the topic:
The numerous Apple Fanbois (and -gurlz) in my life finally convinced me to stop spending my free time getting Linux to work on various laptops. I'm on my second MacBook Pro, and my wife & two daughters have Macs as well. I was the final convert, although I use mine as a terminal to administer...
