Fuduntu - Dell D600

After a mostly favourable installation within VMware it was time to take Fuduntu 2012.1 for a spin on my Linux Donkey Test machine, an old Dell 1.8Ghz, D600, 2GB RAM and a PATA SSD, yes you read that right took a lot of hunting to find that baby!

The intall was smooth, no issues and up and surfing within 10-15 minutes, the "updates" took forever and the "porgress/how long do I have to wait indicator" did not leave me very well informed, minor gripe but still, as...

dosex (irregular expressions for copying, renaming with wildcards

Features:
  • input a name and a wildcards string to see if the name matches
  • optionally input an wildcards string for a new name and get a very good clone of DOS
    functionality.

This was the last missing piece for the filenames functions which will be included in libLQ shortly.

Streamripper and friends. Recording internet radio.

Streamripper is a linux command line application that makes it easy to record internet radio. As well as showing how to use this command line tool I take a look at StreamRipStar one of the many front ends for Streamripper. A little bit of audacity editing is thrown in at the end as well.

Bash functions to list and kill or send signals to process trees

These functions can be used in scripts or interactive shells to manipulate process trees. At least bash version 3.0 is needed. May also work with some earlier versions.

kill_tree - Creates a list of processes based from a parent process ID first then sends the signal to all of them synchronously.

kill_tree_2 - Same as killtree but it doesn't create a list first. It immediately kills processes as it goes through every level.
