Debian live nonfree boots to console login? Why?!

Posted 08-14-2015 at 04:02 PM by WestCoastSunset

Can anyone tell me when booting to the nonfree kde version of Debian live 8.1 it boots to a console login, yet when using the the second option (failsafe, I believe it is called), I can boot into xwindows? This is why I find linux very frustrating.

Can someone please tell my why unetbootin does not work right when using linux? I can only get bootable usb devices created properly when I used the Windows version in Windows. Even then, when I tried creating a bootable usb with the latest Debian live 8.1, it will not run the live gui, only the graphical install. I've tried out a couple other usb creation programs (win32 disk imager, and rufus), Rufus seems to work better, but they both give me errors during creation. But the live filesystems do...

Vonets mini 300 wifi bridge/repeater - part 3

Posted 08-14-2015 at 03:11 PM by WestCoastSunset

Well, after having used this device for a couple of months, I have discontinued using it. I have come to discover that using a wifi bridge with a cordless phone so I can use my magic jack was not working out too well. There was an annoying buzzing on the line when using the repeater that is not present when plugging the magic jack directly into the router. As of right now I have my magic jack plugged directly into the router. The cordless phone I have been using is the cheap vtech dect 6 from Walmart....

Posted 08-12-2015 at 01:04 PM by rocket357 (Musings on technology, philosophy, and life in the corporate world)

Still waiting on parts, but I've gotten the rails toggle switch and standby/power LEDs soldered in, and I have the load resistor in as well. Binding posts are holding up the entire show. Should be delivered today, I hope. After desoldering half of the dead electronics in the house, it felt good to put something together (even if I'm still not done).

In other news, my ATmega328P board is coming along nicely (not that I've actually *tested* it, as I'm waiting for the *ahem* bench...
