Linux Works - Part 1

I have bought several books on Linux, especially on the core of the operating system itself.

Wait a minute! All of them have very good work. All have very good forewords, contents, and almost all of them have the same chapter content and especially in the same order.

Look at me! I studied Electronics Engineering. My experience is about the two magnificent worlds of computer and telecommunications. Even for me, at the time of this writing I am 44, it is very hard...

Fix an error message I get when updating Ubuntu 8.10

Hello,
I have installed Ubuntu 8.10 as a program on my Windows XP laptop. The Boot Manager works fine, and I have previously installed Ubuntu updates successfully. Now I can;t.

I receive the notification that I can install 88 updates. When I choose to install the updates, I get a message that says:

E:dpkg was interrupted. you must manually run
'dpkg -- configure -a" to correct the problem.
E:_cache-> open () failed. please...

Moving sucks ...... but with a new crib comes mythtv !

So the good news is I had the last week off work. The bad news , as you can guess by the title, is that I spent it lugging god awful heavy books and furniture to the new crib. Archaic manuals and cables that I cant bring myself to throw away seemed to be a living entity, and I spent my week feeling like the Atlas man !

Now there are obvious pro's and cons to this one of the definable cons is that I'm pretty sure the wifey "lost" the Princess Leah in her metal bikini poster...

Modem Troubles

I wanted to loan an older computer (Dell Dimension v333c) to a friend so she could try out Linux, specifically Xubuntu. But the (win)modem doesn't work with Linux...so I'm trying to figure out how to come by a serial external modem without investing a lot of money. I'm going to try OlyGeek in downtown Olympia and see if they might have something. And ask my OMUG friends, too! Anyway that is my project for right now; besides cooking dinner! Our cook is sick...

Installing Img2pdf Software on Debian Linux

I had a need to get the Img2pdf software from www.freshmeat.net to run on my Debian 3.1 (Sarge) linux machine. This software is used to convert a folder of single page image files to a single pdf document. Installing the img2pdf software turned out to be a very difficult task for me since I am not familiar with programming. The hardship could have been significantly reduced if better installation documentation were available, but that did not appear to be the case. Since I was able to successfully...
