My Slackware Experience (I'm not ready to giveup windows yet).

Posted 04-07-2006 at 01:23 AM by MaxxxaM

I have a HP Netserver E60. It currantly has Duel Pentum II 450 mhz CPU's, I'm upgrading to duel pentum III 600 mhz CPU's in a couple weeks. 383 MB of PC 133 memory.

I very little about Linux, I've tried Suse and Mandrake now I'm trying Slackware. I always thought Slackware was the elitist Linux distribution, and because of this I though it would be the hardest to use. I'm Starting with Slackware 10.2, so I have no clue what any of the earlier versions are like. Its not as bad as...

Amarok in KDE

Posted 04-06-2006 at 06:39 PM by qizzer

Amarok hasn't been working so well in KDE lately. I get freeze ups and even get my email opening up to send bug reports.
I got rid of ~/.kde/share/apps/amarok
I also got rid of ~/tmp/kde-qizzer/amarok*.tmp (there were a lot of those.)
and I added amaroks urpmi site to my urpmi media.
urpmi.addmedia amarok-beta http://www.gkmweb.com/amarok/2006.0/1.4-beta with hdlist.cz
I haven't played around with it much yet, but it seems to be feeling much better.

Getting Mozilla-Firefox to use kmail

Posted 04-06-2006 at 02:53 AM by qizzer

Mozilla-Firefox didn't seem to care what kde components said to use as the default mail client. I wanted to use kmail. The fix is quite easy.

cd ~/.mozilla/firefox/*.default
ls *.js
#there probably isn't already a file called user.js
#If there is skip the next line.
touch user.js
#edit user.js with your favorite editor.
emacs user.js
#add the following two lines.
// File > Send Link uses Kmail
user_pref("network.protocol-handler.app.mailto","kmailservice");...
