laptop hangs on boot

This is a new installation on an Acer TravelMate 4050 with 256 MB RAM.
OS is Opensolaris snv_54 installed from 6 CD's (which install and boot on a desktop).
Boot hangs after 'Configuring devices'. Adding -arvk to the Grub boot line
shows that the hang/reboot occurs as follows:
