fedora 2 boot hangs with following error on hp zv5000 laptop
I have installed successfully fedora core 2 on hp zv5000 laptop with dual boot . when i tried to boot to fedora 2 , system hangs with following message :
modprobe : FATAL : Error inserting Floppy (...) no such device and hangs.
I don't have floppy on my laptop. How do i tell fedora , not to probe for flloppy drive and continue further?
hi
try this out
in ur bios choose a floppy drive, even though u do not have one
so when u start it will give u a message in the bios that floppy not found preess F1 to continue, follow that and start FC2, it will boot off nicely and then we can have change some setings in fedora ..rest is lf to the xperts here....
i too wanted the solution to this problem but i haven't posted this yet, so i hope to get this here
but in my system it does not hangs up there,it surely displays the message and waits for some time and continues booting, but when i made that change in my bios , the booting goes fine but with that error mesage in startup in bios
ok the easiest way to do this is to log into single user mode, this is done this way (provided you are using grub boot loader)
When the menu appears to select linux or windows, highlight the linux option, then press 'e' to edit, then you will see the grub config lines associated with the boot selection, now select the second line, the one that says root=LABEL=/ (or sometimes can be /dev/hdxx), now press 'e' again to edit that line, then at the end of the line just type the word 'single' then press enter then press 'b' to boot.
This will boot into single user mode and not process any modprobing, this will drop you to an sh shell, from there you can edit modprobe.conf and change what you need to. Then once you are finished with it, either type 'reboot' or 'init 6'
