hi people,

every time i boot while the text is rushing through the screen there is at some point:

cardmgr[60] starting, version is 3.2.5

sometimes it holds there a bit and then boots normally, but usually it hangs at that point and the booting doesn't continue even if i wait for several minutes.

any suggestions, if yes make it so a noob (me) can understand it please.

Cardmgr is the program that manages all your PC cards (the slots on the side, either PCMCIA or CardBus). If it is hanging it could be because you didn't compile in the proper drivers for the "Bridge" (if you recompiled the kernel yourself) OR possibly because of a problem with a card that is installed. If you don't ever plan on using PC cards, you can change the permissions (using chmod) of /etc/rc.d/rc.pcmcia and removing executability from it.
That would be
chmod -x rc.pcmcia

BUT obviously this is just a quick fix and would NOT be acceptable if you need your pc card slots.
You could try removing any cards that are in the slots at boot time and seeing if that helps, and then adding each of them one at a time to see which causes the problem, if it is card related.
