Also note, moving forward: clicking "No" in the helpful system will not have any impact on the rep system. You'll need to manually and explicitly down rep a member if you intend to do so. First: The parts of my comments you quoted in your post #673 were in reply to damgar's remarks and an attempt by me to re-assure him and tell him how I feel/felt about being part of LQ. (for those interested: my answer to damgar, post #656)

At this particular moment I'm content with the way things are at LQ and I'm participating "as usual". I am however keeping a close eye on how things are developing.

I did have a little scare yesterday (see post #616), but changes that were made after that (see, among others, posts #618, #622, #623 and #626) and the way LQ looked when I checked this morning did put my mind at ease for the moment.

I did learn to live with some other things that were implemented in the last couple years and, even though I have strong feelings about the reputation system, I will probably learn to live with this as well (assuming that the direction it is going doesn't make a sudden turn somewhere).

I cannot give you any specifics about where my line will be crossed, but I'm sure I'll mention it when that starts to happen.

Thinking more about the integration with the "Helpful" system: as it stands now, a helpful "Yes" will up rep at 50%. I'm thinking it may make more sense to have a "Yes" click simply increment rep by a standard number (probably 1) across the board. Thoughts on this?

I must agree with jeremy on this situation. If you are going to participate in this system you either have to thicken your skin or opt out. This system will allow anyone to form their own opinion or discern how the situation is presented then weighed/decided from their understanding or bias.

As for 'thickening the skin', don't be too sensitive on one persons position. You can use it to build the understanding or hopefully that someone will openly respond to the indifference or lack of understanding on their part.

anisha, I've read a lot of your posts or queries. You seem to understand responses when someone provides interpretation of their meaning. That's one of things I have to work on all the time. Communication! I've worked with International students for years and still find myself explaining or define my meaning(s). I'm not talking down here but sometimes the author/presenter must break things down to simpler terms to convey their meaning to a non-native speaker. This can be a difficult task for both the speaker & listener. That darn language barrier.

Solved when we can mind-link each other's thoughts directly. You'll get scrambled thought when you link to mine.

It's probably due to your knowing only one language. It's a fairly common phenomenon when you go abroad and meet people who never spoke anything but their native language while you try to use their idiom. Notice for yourself: You tried to "translate" anishakauls english(!) into yours.

And what could the most probable explanation for w.r.t be? With regards / respect to? Is it really so difficult to assign probabilities? Look at the context?

BTW, what does "You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to $memberName again." mean? Again? I've never thanked this $memberName.

Once you use the rep system on a member, you cannot use it on that same member again until you've used the system on $n other members. To know if what you're seeing is a bug or expected behavior, I'd need you to send me the username in question offline.

I've changed the helpful system "Yes" integration from a 50% ratio to a standard +1 rep across the board. This change, along with the previous changes in how rep alteration power is calculated (and maxed) should result in a significantly more egalitarian system that will hopefully not only encourage participation but make the rep system more enjoyable across the board.
