QUESTION:

A person named jyllica clicked "yes" on my of my posts in this thread but the point didn't increase !

Does this mean, a decision has been taken w.r.t reputation points in non-technical forums ?

I was browsing through Repute TAB on jyllica's profile, when I saw, the following post marked as "not helpful" !

I don't think that post from the newbie was so bad that is was necessary to vote him down as "no" !

and even if it was, a compulsory comment on a "no" w.r.t "helpful post feature" will make it easier for the person in question to understand why he was voted down !

and also prevent the further misuse of the feature !

In addition to above post, if the name of the poster who marked the post as "not helpful" and quietly moved on, would be on a public display, he would think twice before "hit and run" !

I think I found something that doesn't work entirely like it should. When you click on the 'scales' to see what reputation has been given to a certain post you have the possibility to Add / Take reputation and a list of reputation already given/taken to that particular post/user.

Now, when I click on the same icon of a user I recently (one or two days ago) gave reputation to in any thread to see the reputation given to his post I only get the message that I 'need to spread some rep before I can rep him/her again'. So this means that I cannot 'consult' what's been left by others just because I repped that particular user before and haven't 'spread' a lot of rep to others since.

Is this supposed to be like this? I feel like this 'forces' me to rep other posts/users in order to be able to see the comments given to someone I've repped also.

That's my opinion too. Now, being anonymous to all except the poster he get's away with it, leaving an eventual possibility of exposure in the hands of the affected.

I don't think so.

I do believe that someone with a low rep and only a few posts gives 1 point when using the rep button, when s/he uses the helpful button not all points are rewarded but only half. We don't do decimal points in this rep system, so 0 is added.

If someone whose native language isn't English makes a spelling mistake, then somebody else comes along and makes a sarcastic comment about it, I shall hit the "not helpful" button. Unless the OP is using text-speak, then I'll make the sarcastic remark, maybe.

That person has got 13 repute points ! I didn't know that it is considered so low that a half point would be added !

The Official Participation program we have here at LQ should accomplish what you're asking here in a significantly better way.

It is still not clear how much points are given at a certain level. But I'm guessing that you need more then 13 points and a handful of post to be able to give more then 1 full reputation point (helpful YES would be full_rep_points/2).

I think in the end the system has the potential to make contributing at LQ more fun, not less. Good to hear you think we're iterating the system in the correct direction though.

I'm interested to hear in what way us implementing this system would/could impact you deciding to participate here at LQ. Thanks again for the continued feedback.

How do you consider it unjust or (considering the significant amount of visibility we added into the system yesterday) not transparent? I'm looking for specifics.

I'd encourage all members to do this, regardless of what features we implement here at LQ.
