Yahoo Music... I despise DRM. I don't mind paying $.79 for a soing I like. I just hate not being able to move it around, or risk losing access to the song because my WinXP install is long-in-the-tooth and I need to re-install.

I love the radio-like features. The streaming of stuff available on Linux is very good... But I would sorely miss my yahoo music. So I dual-boot and use VM software (VirtualBox).

I could buy a WinXP retail license and run XP in VirtualBox to run Yahoo Music, but that would cost ~ $200... just to run my favorite music software.

Some of you may be sickenned by my like for it, but it does very much what I need, but locks me in to Windows.

So, that's my wish... Yahoo Emusic, or Napster, or Rhapsody, on Linux.... I want to buy music. I should not have to buy Windows in order to buy music... but that is exactly Microsofts' intent, I am sure.

I haven't had time to look through the whole thread, but can we have an update on which vendors you've contacted so far, and what responses you've had?

Thanks

I want a program that will allow any Microsoft(Windows) & Apple(Mac) software(drivers, programs, etc.) to be used on linux. I'd go hug the nearest pengiun I could find( because penguins kick ass) if one came out. Maybe Cubase or some other recording software would be cool if I had to be specific.

One has to agree, wouldn't we all like that! Without wishing to dismantle the rich vein of hope such a suggestion contains, it has to be said that, underneath, Windows and Linux are chalk and cheese and that longings for a tight alignment may be a very long time finding even a remote fulfillment.

I think that if an emulation (or compatibility-providing) software exists, nothing prevents you from not using it.

Was going to post "Canon photo software" but decided to add that I'd like to see every big camera manufacturer port their photo software to Linux. There are Linux programs for processing RAW image formats, for example, but they don't support all formats (and when a new model comes out, it takes half a year to get it supported because the manufacturer isn't helping) and not even close to all options provided by the manufacturer's original software.

It's a pity. The idea of using a digital camera is trashed, if you can't deal with the digital format well. Actually because of the lack of software (and my unwilligness of paying for an entire OS to be able to use a single piece of software which doesn't run emulated) I'm planning to switch my digital SLR for a non-digital one. Good sides are, I'll be learning more physically, I'll get much better resolution and don't have to waste my time with computers (for those who think their digital cameras have "good" resolution, try to compare a big-scale result with a film camera one - film camera's image looks better in bigger sizes, for there are no pixels to run out of).

Hey Bouncer - I am in a similar pickle. I am trying to install the easy print software to run under WINE - I've even managed to get the installer to launch (see http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...php?t=5666500). I don't want to give up my photo printing hobby (instant gratification, I guess as if one hour photo isn't enough . Anyway, I've lobbied canon via email and I refuse to give up!

InDesign/QuarkXPress mostly. A translation tools like WordFast and dictionaries similar to ABBYY Lingvo. I am VERY satisfied with all other tools and if I only would have InDesign, I'd forget about Windows forever

I am fast becoming a convert. i always liked the marine aquarium screesaver, as well as tmpegdvd author to run within PCLinuxOS without wine. Since I am being greedy, how about scrabble too.
