Cheese closes after video capture begins on Mint 14 with Compaq Presario V2000

I am running Linux Mint 14 Nadia on a Compaq Presario V2000, and I have installed the photo/video-taking program Cheese (version 3.6.0) on the machine. The program can take photos, but when I attempt to capture video via my webcam, the program simply closes after I click the button that says "Record a Video". How, if possible, can I correct this error (that is to say, how can I cease this unwarranted closing)?
Any assistance would be much appreciated.
Thanks!
