application to play wmv


does anybody know of an application that willplay wmv on linux? Im running RH9

I think that mplayer does it . You should have that media player installed anyway, because it's so so good

Mplayer will play wmvs, but only if you install the codecs.

ok...Im there and I downloaded the rpm for mplayer. Is there something im missing? I double clicked the rpm icon and it appeared as though it was installing but I have no clue where to look to run it...any ideas. Very new to linux OS.

Run either mplayer or gmplayer - or check your multimedia programs in the program groups on the menu.

no path should be required - just the command.

well I think i installed 3 different rpms for mplayer. Exactly what do i key into the terminal? I try gmplayer and says not found?

You need to install the mplayer-gui rpm. Then run gmplayer.

ok I think I installed it, how do I check to see, and could you please give me the exact line to type to get it to run in the terminal?

this is what i get...is there something more i need to type in order to get it to run?

[michael@localhost michael]$ gmplayer
bash: gmplayer: command not found

can you run:
mplayer
and if you can, try something like:
ln -s /usr/local/bin/mplayer /usr/local/bin/gmplayer

nope I guess I dont have it installed...if its installed, what path would it be under? Also when I double click on the RPM it starts and then just gos away.
