Getting 9.3 to play wmv files

Ok, I give. I tried following the Mad Penguin's how to Correct Multimedia (for 9.2) for my AMD64 version of 9.3 Pro. It did not work. apt--no-checksig install libxine1 fails, because the codec installation fails. The error message says it is "uninstallable".

I tried to install two 64 bit rpms I found at DJS Consulting. I couldn't even install because three libraries were missing.

So, I tried what the Mad Penguin said to do for 9.3, which was add a German update site. (ftp.gwdg.de) I did so, and installed four "optional" multimedia packages, but I still can't play wmv files that friends have mailed me.

Is there someplace that has rpm's for the 64 bit version of 9.3, or xine code that will really compile?

Or you could try MPlayer. With the additional codecs, it plays asf/wmv without a problem.

Use the Kaffiene front end to Xine. Go to this site and follow the steps carefully.

It really does work. Take care!

Thanks guys. I had been to the cambuca site before, but I tried to use Yast to install the rpms, which must have been my mistake. Doing everything by hand seems to work just fine.

Not a mistake, just the wrong source. packman.iu-bremen.de offers fully featured multimedia packages.
