Which Linux distribution are you using? If I remember correctly, Mandrake 9.1 and higher comes with mplayer. Install from your disks first
. If you are on Redhat/Fedora, you may want to use
apt-get to install mplayer. It works this ease:
apt-get install mplayer
apt-get will then connect to a server, download codecs, gui's, fonts, mplayer core and install everything for you. If you are on Mandrake, then:
urpmi mplayer
if it's 9.1 or higher it will ask for you Mandrake CD and install it for you. It's the easiest way of installing mplayer with those distributions. Any other distribution, I'd recommend compiling it from source. rpm's are just that bad to stick with
.
