Cannot get logged into KDE 2

I am having trouble logging into KDE2. I am running it on a caldera 3.0 box. I have checked the password file and other basic trouble shooting steps by logging in using the LILO boot line to see my files. I can not even log in on failsafe. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this.

What does this have to do with KDE? And why are you using such old software anyway?
Are you saying you can't login to kdm but you can at the console? Or just no login period?

KDE2 login

I can not get logged in at all at the console. In the boot up process it goes automatically to a graphical login screen that shows all my users. When I click on root and try to login it tells me KDE2 login failed. A user logging in from a windows workstation can log in and see their files and edit them but I cannot login to root from the console or the Web Root Interface.
