why is gnome logged on behind kde?

i recently installed fc3 and i notice that when shutting down kde the gnome desktop seems to be running...
i also notice that just after i first log into kde the login screen quickly displays again.

i only log in once and that is with kde so how is it possible that gnome is also running?

I seriously doubt that gnome and kde are running at the same time, but it is possible.
After you are up and running, in a console run the command "top" and post the output.

Gnome is system default when installing FC3. As said, look at top and your start-up scripts if gnome really IS running behind kde at boot.
