VNC w/ KDE question

hello,
I turned remote management on on my Suse 9.1 box. when I connect to it , it connects but the screen is grey with a x in the middle of it. I can move the x around with my mouse but don't every see the desktop? Does the same thing if I connect to the it via a web browser?

Thanks in advance for your help!
Mark

You need to tell it to use KDE as the desktop. In the file /home/username/.vnc/xstartup add the lines "unset SESSION_MANAGER" and "exec /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc" then comment out everything else. And you should then get KDE or Gnome or whatever your standard windows manager is.

If that don't work, try simply typing gnome-panel to launch the gnome starter bar. From there you can launch the other gnome things. Not sure what the command is for kde, but maybe it is kde-panel ?
