VNC w/ KDE question
hello,
I turned remote management on on my Suse 9.1 box. when I connect to it , it connects but the screen is grey with a x in the middle of it. I can move the x around with my mouse but don't every see the desktop? Does the same thing if I connect to the it via a web browser? Thanks in advance for your help! Mark |
You need to tell it to use KDE as the desktop. In the file /home/username/.vnc/xstartup add the lines "unset SESSION_MANAGER" and "exec /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc" then comment out everything else. And you should then get KDE or Gnome or whatever your standard windows manager is.

I'll try that. Thanks for all your help!

If that don't work, try simply typing gnome-panel to launch the gnome starter bar. From there you can launch the other gnome things. Not sure what the command is for kde, but maybe it is kde-panel ?
