I am looking for a small router that has at lest 4 ports and will run some version of Linux. I don't want to run something like dd-wrt I want to just run a Linux distro. I also don't want to re use an old pc because of power consumption.
So my requirements are multi nic, Linux friendly, and low power consumption.
If you mean like a small computer, would something like this work? I don't know if all the components are Linux friendly or not but you can order it without an OS. You can also choose up to 4 GB of memory.
Unless you can get something like the Untangle hardware firewall appliance or similar with a small atom processor, I'd think your choices are limited. Or other like this. http://www.rakuten.com/prod/mini-itx...FQcMaQodgjgICg
It would be easy to use something like a Liva/Brix and use some usb to ethernet adapters. Not sure how many nic's you need. Or build up some small SOC board.
the reviews I've read on Dual Core Atom CPU's is that their is not enough of a performance hike to even bother giving a party. If one could get the same with only a single core atom for less money. By what I've read you will not even notice what you might have missed in speed gain that is not really their from that I've read up on them.
