Post mouse trouble

i recently switched the mainboard & cpu on an installed debian linux
all still works fine but now i have a ps2 connection i want to use for the mouse and get rid of the com to ps2 convertor
this didn't work at first (no mouse in kde) so i edited XF86Config-4 and changed the line which said

blabla = ttys0
to
blabla = psaux

the mouse now works but is not controllable (it seems to prefer being in the upper left corner)

anything else i should change?

there's also a reference to /dev/mice in the config file but i didn't change anything there

after reading through some similar posts i'ld like to note the mouse worked fine (mouse wheel and all) before, the zaxismap(p)ing is ok and the protocol is imps2

thx for your time

Here's how my XF86Config file reads, re: mouse--

Code:
Section "InputDevice"

# Identifier and driver

    Identifier  "Mouse1"
    Driver      "mouse"
    Option "Protocol"    "IMPS/2"
    Option "Device"      "/dev/mouse"
    Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"
I was having trouble when it read "psaux" but it works fine with the settings above. I have a Logitech cordless optical mouse.

You might want to add:

Code:
 Option "Emulate3Buttons" "off"
Don't know if this helps or not but my mouse works correctly under KDE, in Fluxbox, Blackbox, Xce4, FVWM, and IceWM with my settings. The "fourth" button which can assume special functions under MS Windows with Logitech's special driver, duplicates pressing the wheel "button," but I don't much care. I usually just pretend it doesn't exist.

mouse...

thanks, it didn't solve the problem yet but got me looking in the right direction
In the reference pages for debian i found a solution but first i have to install gpm and that means installing networking first ...

according to the manual the configuration should be like this:

/etc/gpm.conf | /etc/X11/X86Config-4
=========================+=============================
device=/dev/psaux | Section "InputDevice"
responsiveness= | Identifier "Configured Mouse"
repeat_type=raw | Driver "mouse"
type=autops2 | Option "CorePointer"
append="" | Option "Device" "/dev/mouse"
sample_rate= | Option "Protocol" "IMPS/2"
| Option "Buttons" "5"
| Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"
| EndSection

if this solves the problem i'll add it to the post

Wow... That looks complex. Certainly worth a try--let us know whether it works or not.

I used two debian-based distros very briefly: Mepis and Libranet. My mouse worked fine in both of them without any additional configuration.... Makes me wonder what the difference is.

Did you ever state what brand and type of mouse you're using? Maybe that's why it's different from what I experienced.

Actually all worked fine after reinstall without any further reconfiguration
(network ok, mouse also even without gpm)

So.. never swap mainboards on a linux install

I also experianced problems using my optical PS2 mouse with gentoo linux using xorg
At first the mouse was working fine but later on it started acting funny. After a few seconds of moving my mouse it started opening windows and moving irregular mainly in the upper left hand corner. I looked around to see if there was any fixes to this but I could not find any. I tried using various drivers for the mouse in my xorg.conf file. Nothing worked. The only solution that I have came up with so far is this. When I started my xwindows session, I unplugged my ps2 mouse and then replugged it back in. The mouse irregular behavior stopped. Try this and tell me if you get any results.
