i just installed red hat 7.3 on a hp notebook. once i get into the log-on window my mouse does not respond to movement. it is an usb three button mouse (optical). my touchpad doesn't work either.
Does it work before the log on window (i don't think that you do use your mouse before that anyway)
Well it might just be a kernel issue, it may not be supported at this time, go to www.kernel.org and download the latest stable kernel or the latest beta kernel.
If you need help compiling a kernel search around the forums.

Rep:
load usb core and usb hid modules (i dont know the exact names of the modules) or maybe better recompile your kernel including those options, then edit XF86Config and change the mouse protocol in core pointer section to imps/2 then start X and voila, your mouse works. As far as i know all USB mice work with Linux, well at least all the Logitech mice i tried...
