After installing Ubuntu10.11, my laptop speaker not working but if i plug earphone into the earphone jack i can listen the audio sound thru the earphone.
Even if i boot into WinXP, same problem happened. This doesn't happened before in dual boot with WinXP.
What is the possibilities which can lead to this problem?
Boot using the Live CD and see if the speakers work.
If it is happening in both OS's and it worked prior it sounds like a hardware issue. Either the board or the speakers themselves. If it works under the Live cd then it is the software. If so I would then check your sound settings to see if it is muted which is the default upon set up for many distro's.
Before I reloaded anything, I would open the mixer app (I can't remember exactly what Ubuntu calls it, as I got fed up with Ubuntu and went back to Slackware, but you should be able find it in the control center) and make sure the PC speakers aren't muted.
Distribution: Mainly Devuan, antiX, & Void, with Tiny Core, Fatdog, & BSD thrown in.

Just want to make sure that you actually booted back into WinXP & literally checked the status, because it has happened to me.
I muted it in WinXP & it left the computer soundcard muted! No Linux distro could unmute it, at that time, but after rebooting into WinXP & unmuting it, I rebooted into Linux & had sound.
i reinstall ubuntu but still no sound from speaker.
i rebooted to WinXP, even in WinXP also having this problem(no sound) when play music files. however got audio sound from earphone.
i had checked the setting in WinXp to make sure it is not muted.
Just wondering what's the connection between internal speaker and the earphone output jack.
I am using laptop Dell Inspiron700m,internal speaker no audio but earphone output jack can hear audio. i still think it is due to some internal setting problem, but no clue to rectify it
Realize, I was not suggesting that you try Slackware, just explaining why I couldn't remember where the Ubuntu mixer app thingee was located.

Certainly. A big part of it is likely that I started with Slackware (v. 10.0) and I got to know it well.
I got to know it well, because Slackware does not hold your hand. It expects you to RTFM and it is a darn fine teacher. (Fortunately, the Slacker community is a large and helpful one.)
I also consider it much easier to configure than other distros, once you know your way around it. I much prefer its init structure to that of Fedora or Debian. I also like that it boots by default to a terminal, not to a graphical display manager. A terminal is so much simpler. I like that so much that I've configured my Fedora and Debian machines to do the same thing.
One of the complaints about Slackware is that it doesn't have package management. Actually, it does; pkgtool is a simple and elegant thing. What it doesn't have is an official repository, but Slackbuilds.org is rapidly filling the void as an unofficial one.
What Slackware does not do is resolve dependencies. Dependencies are a user problem. That can be annoying, but it also promotes learning and creativity.
I reformat and reinstalled winXP, but still the laptop internal speaker got no audio unless i use earphone output jack.
Should i confirmed that my speakers are not working anymore?
