one of my machines is a slack 8.1 machine with an onboard sound. that's why i have compiled the kernel with a via82cxxx_audio module and the ac97_codec module. they load fine, however, when i run xmms, and try to play an mp3, it just hangs. it doesnt give any error messages, just hangs.
Sound from the speakers, like what? just a humm? Check your mixer and make sure line in and mic are muted. Try other players like mpg123 and mp3blaster to see if it's just xmms.
yeah, this happens to me, the only way to BYPASS it is to only click the song twice and wait, before it hangs, it hangs on me if i click it again. i don't know what is wrong. hope that helps.
