well, its obvious it was going to crash, doesnt wine mean "windows emulator"??
i got to install the nvidia drivers and restarted, when it restarted, i saw the nvidia logo show at the startup, flickering. so it wasnt the nvidia drivers, i've read a bit about this and it might be the vertical refresh rate that isnt the right one.
any ideas???

Naah - wine means 'wine is not an emulator'
Anyway just for the record:
Netscape 7.0 for M$ installs and works with wine but if you try to install the plugin it doesn't go anywhere and if you try to install the d/l manager for that 'anti-leech' software x crashes and you'll get error msgs about the CPU -cool!

May I suggest.
If you want to use linux and get the most out of it, try doing some researce before you go out and buy something. Many types of hardware are fully compatible, while others are not done yet. This is because people have not wrote drivers for it. Not the fault of Linux.
If you already have unsupported hardware. Use it for your windows system if you have one. If you don't then you will just need to wait or better yet give it to a friend and buy something that works with Linux.
If you find your device does not work with xp what will you do.
Some of the best software I have will not run on XP.
By the way the WinXP post was great mcleodnine
I have decided to give RedHat 8 another try on my HP Pavilion. I am currently upgrading RedHat 7.3 on it.

well!!
I think, if you gona use linux for personel use (Games, doc, ... etc),I AGREE linux still behinde. However, In the near future, I am sure that linux will become Dominant for Desktops.
Todays, Linux is very powerful for servers. and it is an open source OS, so Thousands of developers can paticipate in developing, and debuging linux and other applications under GPL License.
JUST BE PATIENT AND YOU WILL LOVE IT

leaving the djmixes2k think for a while, could anyone help me with my flickering monitor???
it should be supported by linux, because when i installed my system, it was on the list (viewsonic e90).
like i said, most of the flickering monitors posts tell you to mess with your xf86config file, so it arranges your monitor to the right vertical refresh rate.
in my monitors manual it says that the refresh rate should be 75 hz.
i checked the refresh rate by checking on my monitor a little stuff that comes with it called "viewmeter" and it shows 75hz.
i have no idea on what should i do, the flickering isnt there on windows nor while linux is starting, it starts when x starts and some times it isnt there.
another issue.
i made a link on my desktop to my pyslsk, it worked for a while and now it doesnt. i dont know why, i can only use pyslsk as root (when i try as user it says it cant find some libraries...) so after i type roots password it stays like "thinking" and then it closes the window and does nothing. i can still open it from a terminal.
another issue.
i installed k3b and find it really nice, but i havent been able to burn cue files. could anyone point me to a k3b help or tutorial??
if anyone here knows about k3b, this is the debugging output when i try to burn my cue
ERROR: /home/nef/Desktop/Windows Downloads/Dj Koris Live @ Tranceescape (21.01.03).cue:1: Illegal token: W
/home/nef/Desktop/Windows Downloads/Dj Koris Live @ Tranceescape (21.01.03).cue:1: syntax error at "EOF" missing { Binary Motorola }
thanx for the help, specially to crashmeister who seems to be trying hard to make djmixes2k work

to burn cue files you do..
cdrdao write --device 0,0,0 <usually this) --speed <speed here> --eject filename.cue

k3b doesn't burn .cue files AFAIK the only way you can burn them is from command line.
If it isn't a fixed rate monitor give xfree the range of the refresh rates. Also try a lower colordepth or resolution.
I never used soulseek - only the plugin that comes with mldonkey and that connects fine to the server but never downloads anything.Either the downloads are real slow there or something is screwed up.
Try gtk-gnutella.That works for sure and has about the same content on the network.

psylsk?? i think i always get the first two mixed up, any caused me no end of problems with rh 8.0. one day it would work then not again for two months etc, but converting to slackware solved all that, also i had many issues with the way that gtk gnutellas memory management functioned under rh 8.0 it would hog all of it sending my system to its knees till i ./killed it

no, i think i didnt explain myself as i should have.
pyslsk works fine, i dont have any problems with it, what doesnt work is the link on my desktop.
when i run pyslsk from the command line it works perfectly.
i have to say the program is real good, even faster than the windows one. when i try to get my place in the queue, on windows it takes a while and sometimes i dont even get it, while on linux the moment i click on it, it works.
yes, k3b does burn cue files, (it actually uses cdrdao). when i tried to burn my cuefile from k3b it showed the exact same error i got when i used the command line. what i want to know is what does the "illegal token W" and the "syntax error at "EOF" missing { Binary Motorola }" mean.
i want to know also how to make a serie of commands run from a link on the desktop, for example to mount my camera i have to type
dmesg
mount /e775
do i have to make two different links???
another one, in many screenshots ive seen something like a memory manager, or a program manager that shows some graphs of memory usage, etc. what is it?? where can i find it??
by the way, im actually enjoying my mandrake. a lot.
i just downloaded the conectiva icon set and i think it looks real cool.
