Cheers guys that's great. I've wanted to check out Linspire for a while but I've only recently had the opportunity to download distros at home (512/128 ADSL yippee).
Ok I'm no legal expert but I don't think it's illegal. I did a search a few days ago on Google and that's how I located the coupon mentioned above! As a matter of fact, I remember Super Bowl Sunday Linspire was offering a coupon on Google. So asking and telling doesn't sound illegal to me. But I could be wrong.
Yes it is legal that is why they provide the coupon link to allow for the download I bet there are lads of people who don't read the site properly so don't realise the discout is there so loads of money will be made from them.
I'm a tad miffed with Linspire since installing it as a duel boot I've had problems with my mouse freezing out in both Linspire & XP this has also affected my cordless mouse & no matter what I do I keep getting freeze ups with my mouse, but thats only my first moan my main concern is this CNR the only way to download and run anything is to subscribe to the CNR and whilst it cost a measly couple of dollars a month everything you do also requires you pay. Now I don't mind paying for stuff but a few $ here and few $ there all mount up. Yet as a new user of Linspire all I see is money going out even downloading shareware and free stuff requires you to sign up for CNR and as CNR appears to be the only way to download and install an application on a Linspire system, Linspire Linspire have people by the short and curlys. Now as I said this is not a complaint about having to pay but to have to pay for basic access systems programs which come as standard with $MS seems a little nasty. Now it may just be me but if you want to sell a product to people then at least let them take in the benefits! I feel I could have spent my money wisely elsewhere.

I don't think $49 a year for every new version of the OS + CNR (including the CNB discounts on commercial software), is much money.
The family license is also a huge bonus.
I think you people should really read other posts made by other people on other threads before you air your lack of understanding about what these things really are:
open source software
GNU/Linux and licencing
commercial Linux
service as opposed to code
free as in beer
etc
You might like to look at this url http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...&pagenumber=16
which is page 16 of a 17 page thread on this forum, condensed by the moderators from two such threads, where exactly the same uninformed opinions were beaten to death.
Go talk to someone who actually knows what they are talking about.
Start with any of the moderators.
But I guess you won't because you have all the answers...
