It's hard to miss the point of a post that basically says, "Free Software = zero dollars".
Why pay? Hmmm, well how about all the times we bought MS? Sure it came "free" with the computer, but we really paid for it. Don't we at least owe that much to GNU/Linux developers?
I would say that GNU/Linux is actually worth more.

Bingo! Now we have found the flaw in logic.
Supporting GNU/Linux has EVERYTHING to do with paying for Linspire!!

This thread!! The only thing GNU/Linux is missing is more Commercial support.

That is kinda dumb to say since linspire sponsors so many projects.

I mean i agree that linspire should charge for cnr as they do need money.
But, i would much rather pay the developers of the programs directly than pay linspire and then have them trickle down the money so that a little bit gets to a few developers.
I would prefer instead of paying 50$ for cnr, i would pay 50 to the actual developers of the xmms, to the actual developers of gnome. to the actual developers of beep media player.

LOL@egag, you just gotta have the last word, right.
1% eh? I hope you're not trying out for the "Get The Facts/FUD" team.
I don't have any problem with people donating to the devs directly, but the distro makers do a HELL of a lot of work too. To deny this is just ridiculous.

I may be a be slow to pick up new ways quickly......but I wonder about those who complain when something they get for free as in zero dollars .
I am as rude the next aussie.......so I am not suggesting I am better.
If you can, try out differect distros but sooner or later......I hope you will stick with one you prefer......including Linspire and then learn enough to help others.
end of rant......and not directed to any poster specifically but generally if you feel hurt
remember I have to wake up each morning and look at my free face and try to understand the mask
(heh heh)

Hey,
Nice thread with some cool posts!!
IMHO, another Debian-based Linux distro seemingly as hot as Linspire/Lindows is Xandros. Their website is http://www.xandros.com/ . Their business model is a mix of commercial ($$$) and free releases. From the 'Xandros Downloads' site http://www.xandros.com/about/downloads.html , they current have three commercial releases and one Bit-Torrent-download 'Open Circulation Edition' -- this last edition at "no charge" --which is at version 3 at the present time.
Maybe with enough interest, the LQ Team will start a separate 'Linux-Distributions' forum for Xandros just as they did here with Linspire ??
