every so often they have a coupon that equals the price of the download edition, which makes it free. Other than that, I believe you have to buy it. I downloaded it with that coupon code, so I didn't have to go chase down a torrent copy.
IMO, Linspire isn't anything spectacular. RH and Novell are both at the bottom of my s**t list right now, and I'd still pick their OS over linspire but thats my personal opinion.

Linspire has a free LiveCD available but the installer is commercial. But like the previous poster said they have occasional coupon codes so you can get it for free.
If it's anything good is a personal opinion, some people say it's the best and other hate it.
About Mandriva, I've been a silver member when it was still Mandrake and IMHO it's a pretty decent distro, I however personally prever Debian (and most Debian based distro's over Mandrake).

Don't bother. I got it for free and hated it. Better off going with something else (Mandriva, Fedora, Suse, Ubuntu, etc.) if you want something simple.

Yes, but that are the modified sources.
There is no stuff like CNR in there and you will need to manually compile everything, so it kinda beats the "easy installation and operation" Linspire is offering.
you might as wel get LFS or something like that instead of getting Linspire from sourcecode (but that's just IMHO)

I take it you're still talking about the sources (like you posted a few posts earlier)
if you are trying to burn them with NERO and are hoping they will be bootable and they will install Linspire you are wrong. Like I said before, it's the sourcecode without the non-GPL stuff.
What you can get for free from Linspire is :
- Linspire Live! (from P2P for example)
- Linspire 5.0 Installation disc (IF you have a valid coupon code, if you don't have a coupon code there is NO Legal way to get Linspire for Gratis. It's also possible to get Linspire cheaper from a builder with a new system for example)

There is also SquiggleOS, which is built from the free packages of Linspire with the proprietary components removed.
