Cygwin is a compiler environment for windows, allowing ELF binaries (linux executables) to run native on the windows platform. It does this by replacing the LSCI (linux system call interface) with the windows (API) at compile time, thus creating windows executables (yuk)

I am cross because I found it easier to install and run the LINUX software under cygwin and windows with a single rodent click, yet under linux I spent hours messing with the install scripts and it still did not work.....

It is like going to a 'health food shop' and finding cigarettes and alchahol on the counter right near the door and the healthy food right at the back of the shop.

but hey, this is the first time I have been cross with linux in 2 years, that is amazing considering I only have to use windows for 30 minutes before I put my fist in my mouth and foam through my teeth

What install scripts?

Use your package manager, that's what it's for!

@dakoder, you should really explain what you are not able to do install, and what distro you are having problems with. There could be really easy solution that would keep your fist unharmed .

Talking

there is no package manager (god I wish there was).

these are the instructions

http://lejos-osek.sourceforge.net/in...tion_linux.htm

but there are errors in the make script resulting in it bailing out with errors.

but I am so close...

linux is great, but it can be too great sometimes !!!
it is like wanting to go shopping and finding the bus is not available so your handed the keys to the space shuttle. could be fun though

I think a better question is 'what is "gud"?'

GUD
good (shortwave transmission)
assuming he meant "good" but like a lot of posters he is so used to using sms or aol chat that typing complete words and sentences has become darn near impossible. The same sad people type that way in irc as well.

bhatia*;
Please do not use texting shorthand here. u=you gud=good wat=what

The point of michaelk's comment is that you cannot compare a company (Microsoft) to a piece of software (Linux). Beyond that, I think there are some good links here on Windows vs. Linux----but only you can decide what is better for you.

Just read myb blog post at thoughts on linux. To nfing oout my thoughts on this matter. I agree that sms slang is not acceptible on the forums here at lq.

As for which of the two operating systems, My choice is clearly Linux because of its lighter resource footprint.
