Just won't get or use anything with Vista on it, Currently researching motherboards that do not have a TPM chip on-board. I'm just not interested in any DRM crap.
And, as I said, by installing your own choice of software make it what you want.
Oh yeah! Teh software! Wait?! I don't like Outlook Express, I have never used Windows Movie Maker, Internet Explorer is slow and MSN Explorer is useless. I'd like to uninstall them to make Windows how I want it to be but how am I supposed to do THAT?

Nice. I would actually be interested in knowing the results of your search. Thx.
I've never used Outlook Express or Windows Movie Maker. And rarely use IE - I use Firefox or Opera. Just because MS put them there doesn't mean you have to use them. Same with Notepad, there's dozens of free text editors. Same with any software in fact.
not nearly so simply put:
Vista is the reason I picked up a book on Unix basics last summer and finally ditched the crummy OS(slash corporation) I've been lamenting the existence of for over a decade. One look at the system requirements (and my existing disgust) was enough to finally abandon Microsoft (almost)entirely.
I did recently install XP again (alongside Debian which I use for everything but games), but it has me realizing what a crap platform it is for playing games that are just a few years old. Every new Windows and/or Directx release kills off playability of entire generations of games. And it's always been that way. Using Directx on a game is a perfect way to guarantee nobody will know about it in a decade. And everyone does it!! So what I'm saying here is, installing XP again to play some games has made me realize that playing games isn't worth the hassle of doing the Microsoft shuffle. I'd rather not play games if it means I have to upgrade to Vista and DX10, and that games I love will cease to function at some point in the near future. I'll keep XP for now to play what games I already have(edit: those that still work that is! /edit), but until the entire PC game industry ceases to be entirely dependant on M$ and Windows, I don't think I'll be buying or playing anything new, (except perhaps the odd id Software title! on Linux, despite the hassle)
The argument that we'll all buy Vista eventually is a total fallacy. Not everyone buys prebuilt computers with Windows preinstalled. Not everyone who buys a prebuilt computer buys one with Windows(though this group is probably so small as to make this point moot - but that's another reason to despise Microsoft). I'll continue to build my own and not buy Windows thanks.
so yeah, not gonna happen, not in a zillion years. I've lamented using Microsoft's ass products since the first days I used Microsoft's ass products (say, around Win 3.0 when a 286 was still decent), now that I have a base of knowledge on a superior platform(which was easily acquired), there's just no way I'll ever buy into a new offering from that heinous entity from Redmond. NO NO NO!
Eventually, for sure, not necessarily a boxed version, or even the upgrade(free because I have a new laptop) because upgrades rate right up there with root canals (for pleasure), from what I've read. There's a lot of driver issues. Dual booting Vista with my Media Center OS is not a legal option with the upgrade disk either so that's out too. But I've played with it at my favorite tech stores and I do plan to one day own a Vista system.Either self built or bought with Vista pre-installed. (I collect computers and I'm an OS freak, interested in many.)I also freely admit I'm really into eye candy, and to me, even the Basic version is really pretty. Of course I'm also interested in what's under the hood. I've been following the development since it was known as Longhorn in my tech mags and to me, any new operating system is interesting. That's why I got into Linux.

I use Ubuntu!
I don't think so, even if DRM crap becomes mandatory, someone or the other will come up with a workaround, but if all else fails, then i prefer to give up computers than become a slave.
Since I have access to legit versions of all sorts of stuff for testing purposes, I have installed Vista and have to say that I was not impressed.
I get fancier graphics on the desktop from Mepis or Ubuntu.
I get better applications at lower cost as well, for the most part.
The whole DRM thing is not really much of an issue to me as far as usage is concerned. Philosophically I do have some problems with the current plans and practices.
I also don't think its right to freely copy/swap/view content without the creators/producers getting something for THEIR efforts though....
But that is another rant and topic.
My problems with Vista are many however, and start with the simple installation process and speed.
I could install linux, update it and install MythTV on half a dozen computers during the time it takes to install Vista on one 3Ghz P4 system.
And be watching tv when Vista finishes updating.
And I would have better desktop graphics and far more applications installed.
I ran Vista for just a few days, but in that time it crashed once and had numerous errors on my proven, stable hardware.
It also had and caused issues on my network (a problem I have also seen with WinXP.)
With about 10 running computers in my home network, I have one with the last decent, stable version of Windows- 2000 Pro- and one that dual boots WinXP simply for gps nav software.
I tested Vista and can see not one compelling reason to use it.
Not a one.

have to agree with this one ... infact i cant "feel" the hype of drm things when using vista ... i also think the hype was a bit over-stated ... done nothing good to linux actually ...
i only use vista "continueously" for a while and i'm quite impress by it(probably all the while i'm a "classic" interface user ^_^) ... i dont see other windows version can be better than vista ... windows users should upgrade to vista for their home desktop ...
one thing i dont like about vista which is obvious to me is that i find it very hard to navigate around in vista ...
Why bother, a friend of mine already has it (well..actually it's not installed at the moment, because it trashed 2 other operating systems and err is kind of 'banned' for now) and I get to see the trouble even without paying for it myself
So..no go. Of course it'll one day be in front of me at work or something, but I'll try not to pay for it myself. And those of you who now think "alright, how about piracy then?", let's just say it's pretty stupid to pay for getting shot at..
