Slow to start, but then gripping. Neeson plays this Special Forces/Secret Service type father whose daughter is kidnapped abroad. It strains reality in places, but who cares? Even my wife stayed up to finish it, which is rare for her these days. Neeson plays his usual blinder in the starring role.

Taken 2 was bad and should never have been made, but taken 1 fans could "take" it.
Taken 3 was so terrible that I, of all people am lost for polite words. "So bad it's good" was the only compliment I saw.
Even people working in McDonalds would turn down leading roles in Taken 4.
I feel kinda responsible for this for recommending Taken in the first place. I am not endorsing Taken 2 or 3 whatsoever, and am not responsible for @linustalman's addiction to taken movies.
If you want to watch Liam Neeson movies, try Schindler's List or Michael Collins.
I'm watching a miniseries called 'magpie murders.' It's a six part thing, set in Agatha Christie type England. In part 1, a famous author finds out he is terminally ill, hands his last book on for publishing, and then..... I won't spoil it for you. It has as many parallel stories and twists as a whodunit. It even includes appearances by Atticus Pund, the famous author's famous detective, and star of his novels. That threw me initially.
It is a refined, laid back production to date, but entertaining to a point. No PTSD here.

I saw the films without looking at the reviews. I like Liam Neeson films.
We get it, you dislike Take 2 & 3. How does liking films make me "addicted" to them as you say?
We can agree on Schindler's List & Michael Collins -- both fantastic films.
I was assessing Taken 2&3 films purely by the reviews. I only stated my POV, and reflected the reviews. For my individual tastes, I've seen a lot highly recommended that I couldn't take, and I like much that never gets a second look from others.

You kinda contradicted yourself there. You bash Taken 2 & 3 without ever having seen them and yet you say "For my individual tastes, I've seen a lot highly recommended that I couldn't take, and I like much that never gets a second look from others."
Also, you never addressed where I commented on your "addiction" remark.

I have to go back somewhat on my halfhearted recommendation of Magpie Murders... As I've only one episode, I'll probably finish it.
Magpie Murders is this country-England thing with a definite Agatha Christie feel about it and apparently set in the late 1950s, but
There's glaring inconsistencies: For instance, none of the cars are new models or have an 'aging' letter in the Registration. That places them pre August 1963. Hem lengths and dress styles match. No fast food restaurants, etc. Much would pass for 19th century. So why does the leading lady have a smart phone with a >6" screen? Why is she getting emails on a newish Mac Laptop and storing the pics on her phone? Why do you see someone else taking the photo near dusk on their smartphone? It was disposable magnesium flashbulbs then.
There's no plot! By the end of Episode 2, the outline was clear - there was a murder to be investigated, and the job was lumped on a halfwit detective and a female featherhead. Nothing really has happened in the next 3 Episodes . They had obviously decided how far they were going to go in Series oneand there was nothing left after Episode 2. Episode 5 was mainly about Atticus Pund farting about. The dead man is a famous author of detective novels, and Atticus Pund was his Hercule Poirot, his genius who solves the whodunit. He's a character from the books. He and his goofy sidekick walk in and out of scenes, and utter profundities, or drag people down to earth. They got most of Episode 5. Oh, she's busted up with her boyfriend - that happened.
